Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN)

SDSN Kazakhstan On June 8, 2022 in the city of Nur-Sultan on the basis of AEO "Nazarbayev University" launched a Network of solutions in the field of sustainable development (SDSN) in Kazakhstan. The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) is a global network operating under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General since 2012. SDSN mobilizes a variety of stakeholders from academia, business, politics and civil society to offer innovative, sustainable solutions to emerging challenges, focusing on practical solutions to sustainable development, including the development and implementation of the 17 SDGs. At the event in honor of the launch of SDSN, the speakers were: Shigeo Katsu-President of Nazarbayev University, Chairman of SDSN Kazakhstan; Jeffrey Sachsa -President of SDSN, USA; Wing Taye Wu - Vice President of SDSN Asia and Head of the office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Ilesanmi Adesida-Provost of Nazarbayev University; Weng Tat Hui -Dean of the Graduate School of Public Policy of Nazarbayev University; Ruslan Sultanov-Chairman of the Board of the Institute of Economic Research, Kazakhstan and others. The Auezov SKU was presented at the event by the head of the Department of Ecology, Shingisbayeva Zh.A.

05/11/2022, 3rd year students of the educational program “6B05210-Ecology” and teachers of the department “Ecology” went on an excursion to Sairamsu, organized by the Corporate Fund for Biodiversity Conservation of Kazakhstan.  During the excursion, students got acquainted with the priceless riches of the Kingdom of flora and fauna of the south of Kazakhstan, and in fact the World Natural Heritage.  They also got acquainted with installations for improving the state of the environment: a solar energy installation, drip irrigation, a natural thermos shower, a natural dryer and a dry toilet.  Based on the conducted research work, the Foundation has prepared a "Living Handbook" with the participation of the World Wide Fund for Nature.  This handbook is published within the framework of the project “Improving the efficiency of management of specially protected natural areas of the Western Tien Shan”.

  


Measures to improve the quality of atmospheric air

On March 3-4, 2022, as part of the implementation of the project "Measures to improve the quality of atmospheric air" in Kazakhstan from 2021 to 2022, the public fund "Socio-Ecological Fund" together with the Department of Ecology, the Higher School of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology of the M.Auezov University of South Kazakhstan held an open lecture on the topic "Actions to improve air quality".

Today, air pollution in Kazakhstan is one of the most serious environmental factors affecting the health of any person. It is important that the public is aware of the potential risks and the possibilities of avoiding negative consequences. Within the framework of the project, the component "Development of the potential of scientific circles and institutions" is being implemented, the results of research work on air quality in the cities of Nur-Sultan, Almaty, Shymkent and Ust-Kamenogorsk were discussed in lectures and concrete measures to improve the quality of atmospheric air were proposed.

The duration of the lectures was two hours.

​Leading the lectures: Nasiba Baymatova, air quality specialist, environmental researcher with 16 years of experience, PhD in chemical technology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

The lecture was attended by researchers, teachers, doctoral students, undergraduates and students. During the lectures, detailed information was provided on the mechanisms of air pollution, air quality assessment, air quality research, air pollution reduction, and answers to questions of concern were received.
