On December 12, 2024, the South Kazakhstan University named after M.Auezov, in collaboration with the Department of "Water Resources, Land Management, and Agrotechnics," hosted an international forum on the topic of "Sustainable Water Resources Management." The event gathered over 200 participants, including leading scientists, experts, educators, and business representatives from Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Malaysia. The forum became a crucial platform for discussing innovations, challenges, and prospects in the field of water resources management in the context of climate change.
- During the forum, leading scientists and experts from Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Malaysia delivered presentations:
- Akkongyr Nurdallakyzy Zhylisbayeva, Candidate of Chemical Sciences and Professor at South Kazakhstan Pedagogical University, emphasized the importance of integrating the principles of "green chemistry" into educational programs. She highlighted that the use of environmentally friendly approaches in chemistry contributes to developing sustainable thinking among the new generation of specialists, which is critically important for global sustainable development.
- Larisa Anatolyevna Zhuravleva, Doctor of Technical Sciences and Professor at RSAU-MSHA named after K.A. Timiryazev (Russia), presented innovative technical and technological solutions for preserving soil fertility. She drew attention to the issue of water erosion threatening agricultural lands and proposed methods to minimize its negative impact through a comprehensive approach to land resource management.
- Botirjon Dadajonovich Abdullaev, Head of the Department of Ecology and Water Resources Management at Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers (Uzbekistan), focused on managing groundwater resources in transboundary regions. In his speech, he highlighted issues related to climate change and growing conflicts over water resources among neighboring states, proposing strategies for effective cooperation.
- Zafira Binti Madzin, PhD from Putra University (Malaysia), discussed advanced water filtration methods using mushroom compost. She presented this solution as an eco-friendly and economically efficient alternative to traditional water purification methods, which could be applied in resource-constrained countries.
The forum opened with welcoming speeches from Ulan Seitkazievich Suleimenov, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation at South Kazakhstan University, and Gulnara Rakhimberdievna Tastanbekova, Dean of the Agrarian Faculty. Participants emphasized the importance of integrating science, education, and practice for effective water resource management.
During the discussions, the following priorities were identified:
- Development and implementation of innovative technologies to minimize the impact of climate change on water resources.
- Preservation and restoration of water resources to ensure food security.
- Strengthening international cooperation in water technologies.
The international forum marked a significant milestone in enhancing scientific and practical connections between countries and regions. Discussions on sustainable water resource management strategies amidst global challenges underscored the need for joint efforts to maintain ecological balance and ensure sustainable development.
Participants were awarded certificates, and the forum materials will be published for further use in scientific and educational activities.
